at a distance
hang outs with meg
“Hang Outs With Meg” is a video series for children and their parents/carers. It was born out of the first social distancing period of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020. Megan Drury created it specifically for her family-friends, so they had access to online viewing and guided activities - with a familiar face - during times of social distancing. The series has since continued throughout the pandemic and will carry on as Megan and her friends are otherwise geographically separated.
a note from meg
Dear friends. This series is a way for us to ‘spend time together’ when we find ourselves geographically apart! It is family-friendly, lo-fi, DIY video content ranging from stretches, exercises and dancing, to drawing, reading, writing and singing, walks in nature, making food or simply chatting about interesting topics! I’d also like to invite my friends to share content with the other young people tuning in to these videos - I am happy to host it! I hope you enjoy! Lots of love. Meg XO

Episode 1: Limbering, Stretching, Yoga
In this video we'll do some limbering, stretching and yoga. It's a good idea to clear some space in a lounge room or bedroom or play area - pick up toys and put them away, move smaller furniture to the sides of the room - so that you, and your sibling or adult carer (if they are there and wish to join), have space to do some gentle movement. Be kind. Help each other. Allow yourselves to do your own versions of what we do. Be wherever you're at, personally. I encourage you to listen to your body and do however much or however little of these moves as you wish! It'll be fun and calming and lovely. Enjoy! :) ! MegX
Episode 2: Making Hummus
In this video we’ll make Hummus! You will need an adult with you so they can do any cutting required and oversee your safety throughout the process. You’ll want some clear space on the kitchen bench and these ingredients: one tin of chick peas (if you have dried chick peas, prepare an approximately equivalent quantity of soaked/cooked chic peas), water, tahini, a fresh lemon, a couple of cloves of garlic, olive oil and salt. You’ll also need a chopping board, a cutting knife, a tablespoon and a blender or food processor. Don't forget to wash your hands thoroughly before we start. Let me know how you go! Enjoy! :) ! MegX
Episode 3: In The Garden
In this video, we head outside to explore the grounds around the house I'm staying in. We pick food and look at interesting things. We then come back inside to write words related to what we encountered. You'll need a pencil or crayon or texta, a blank piece of paper and something firm to lean on when you write. You may like to follow along yourself, ask an adult to help, help a sibling or - as an alternative to writing the words - you could have some coloured pencils at hand to draw pictures of items in the video. Also, you may wish to do further research on some of the things we speak about. Enjoy! :) ! MegX
*Note: Correction to something I say in the video! Bananas release a gas (not an enzyme) that causes other fruit to ripen.
Episode 4: Where in the world am I…?
In this video, I catch you up on where I am, where I’ve been and some of the things I’ve been doing! You might want an Atlas nearby! Or Google Maps! Have a look at Australia… and the UK… and the WORLD! Feel free to send through questions about anything you see or hear on this video and you can send me ‘catch ups’ of your own too! Love you and miss you. Enjoy! :) ! MegX
*Note: Correction to the age of The Mill! It was built in the mid 1700’s not the early 1600’s (I blame google and multiple mills!)
